I think about the “artist” vs “commercial whatever” argument quite often. Nobody wants to look like a tool, call themselves an 'artist' and have the label refuted. So, we shy away from the name. Especially those of us who have been conditioned that using our creativity to sell things is the bullet train to selling out. Even my colleague defines she and I (the two writers on staff here) as not 'real' writers, in comparison to someone who writes novels, publishes fiction, or even makes a living as a journalist. Personally, I think it's a big flaming pile of crap. Feel free to call yourself whatever you like. with confidence, if you're producing work, thinking about what you do, and making yourself happy with it.
