While I agree and look forward to her departure, don't underestimate our mediocrity-embracing entertainment culture. She has an enormous base of politically ignorant fans who are as proud of her ignorance as they are of their own. In her they see themselves, and they like it.

One of the most used news factors in the media is human interest. Almost anything that is written evokes some sort of emotion or reaction from the reader. From a “That's horrible!” to a “So what's your point?”, journalists use the human interest factor to keep drawing their audiences. Once the reader experiences some sort of emotional reaction to a piece of news, they will continue to read the piece, since they found some sort of attachment emotionally to the news. Also, in human interest stories, the content is usually about something unusual or out-of-the-ordinary; audiences latch on to stories like those because of its uniqueness and its unusual content. If media printed stories without considering the human interest factor, no one would probably ever read the news.
